Amazon Spin To Win

To celebrate and continue raising awareness of the growing popularity of Black Friday in the UK, Amazon brought a unique brand experience to London’s Soho Square for the week. Their pop-up "Home of Black Friday" featured product demos, workshops, tasty treats and cocktails, as well as loads of great Christmas gift ideas.

On top of all this, Kerve built them a couple of digital "Spin to Win" games that featured prominently in the store, where users could use Kindle tablets to swipe through a landscape of boxes on the TV in front of them. If it landed on a prize, they won!

Naturally, building the game fell into my hands, and with just 5 days to get it up and running I had to work fast. I set up 2 local Node.js servers, packaged up some apps for the TVs (each powered by a Mac Mini, of course) using Electron, and used socket.io for real-time communication between the TVs and the Kindles.

Over the course of the week, thousands of prizes were given away, thousands more came to visit, and the event garnered some great press coverage. All-in-all, a huge success!
